Great Esparto Explosion of 2025

There was an explosion at a firework storage facility outside of Esparto last Tuesday and it was no joke — that was some scarry stuff. The facility and the ranch around it got leveled…and I mean leveled!

I was at the library when it happened. I freaked out a little, but not as much as some people did. Some women at the Esparto Park with their children, think nuclear explosion. That’s the look they had on their faces.

The power went out, then two big booms, (sounded weird like a tree slamming onto the roof), and then the ground shook around in up and down waves like an earthquake. That part was crazy.

I don’t know what to think about the whole thing. It’s all very sad. Seven people lost their lives, and one had a baby on the way. There’s Sheriff Department and Esparto Fire connections with the facility. When I see how large the plume of smoke was, I thought, “Someone had lost their life, and somebody did something wrong, because that blast was no joke. This one woman told me that she felt it all the way in Winters. That’s a town about like 11 miles away from Esparto.

The property owners also stored ammunition at the facility that I find disturbing. I heard the deputies talking about it on the radio. I wonder how much explosives were involved and ammunition. I think that’s why they ordered a mandatory evacuation “one mile from the blast (minimal safety distance from bullets), and that’s when people really began to panic. I started to panic a little and I had to tell some other people not to panic.

I’ve got nothing else to add that’s not already on the news. I’m not sure how I feel about the whole thing. It’s all really sad. We’ll see in the days to come how this all goes down.
